Applying to Medical School

When applying to medical school there is a time line or a list of steps that you should be following in order to make sure that you are on track. Once you have decided that medicine is the field for you, you need to make sure that you complete all of your undergraduate science requirements. Once you complete the exam and receive your MCAT score you are going to need to complete a medical school application. This application is processed through the American Medical College Application Service. When filling out this application you will be asked which medical schools you want to apply to. If any of the schools that you have chosen decide that they would be interested in having you as a student then you will need to fill out a second application. The first medical school application that you complete will provide medical schools with enough information to make an initial decision on whether you would be a possible candidate to attend their school. These application packages will include your MCAT scores, a personal statement and your undergraduate transcript. If the admissions committee selects you as a potential candidate for their school then you will be sent the secondary medical school application. This application package will differ from the first package that you created in that you will usually be required to write essays on a variety of different topics, and you will also be required to pay a fee in order to have the admissions committee review your package. Once your medical school application has been reviewed you will either be rejected, accepted, or you will be required to partake in an interview. If you are applying to medical school you should prepare yourself for an interview, as the majority of students who are applying for medical school will be required to attend an interview before they are excepted to a school. There are many different places where you can find examples of questions that you will be asked at an interview as well as provide you with tips on how to present yourself. The process of completing a medical school application and attending an interview at a medical school is very draining and stressful, but it will all be worth it if you get in to the school of your choice.
